Unlike the selected competition, Toyota remains in the minicar segment. However, he will adapt his representative to today’s fashion.

Unlike its Cologne siblings with the Citroën and Peugeot emblems, the Toyota Aygo will continue in the new generation. It is to be sold in 2022, and its appearance is now indicated by the carmaker with the Aygo X prologue concept.
The carmaker claims that the Aygu X prologue is “a bold example of how a segment A car can be spiced up ”. The aim was to show that i “Vehicles traditionally referred to as the brand’s most affordable models can stand out from the rest with their design.”
Although the representatives of the brand do not specifically say that the Aygo X prologue is an example of the upcoming third generation of the mini-car produced in Cologne, it can be expected that the novelty planned by the concept will be inspired in at least some respects.

In any case, the shape of the Aygo X prologue clearly shows the connection to the current generation of Ayga. If you look at its stern, you will clearly see the current smallest Toyota in its vertically oriented taillights.
On the contrary, the bow is completely redesigned. Originally, it is decorated with simply designed headlights in the shape of the letter C, which are, however, connected at the bottom by a diode band. The era of headlights running across the bow thus continues.
Most importantly, it takes the overall position of the Ayga X prologue. The car was inspired by the world of crossovers and SUVs, not only with increased ground clearance, but also with accentuated fenders or roof rails. Such a style could be offered, at least in some specific derivative, by the serial Aygo. This is indicated at least by the captured prototypes of the car, which show the raised chassis.
Toyota thus continues to trust segment A, but must adapt its representative to current trends. After all, Lance Scott, director of the ED2 design center in Nice, who designed the concept, claims that the car has ambitions to be a revolution in the A segment and to change it.
The concept also attracts practical details. In the rear bumper, a bicycle holder appears, which in the past was offered by Opel production cars. In the exterior mirrors, mini-cameras are built in, which can be used to capture driving experiences. The two-tone body combining black and red is intended to emphasize the car’s sporty style. By the way, the designers also considered the color green.
Toyota has already confirmed that the third generation Ayga will continue to be produced in its Cologne plant, but without relatives with the Citroën and Peugeot emblems. The French brands withdrew from the joint factory project. The technical basis will be provided by the TNGA GA-B platform, first introduced in Yaris, alongside which the new Aygo will be produced in Cologne. The manufacturer has also emphasized that the upcoming novelty will be available with a conventional internal combustion engine. This is the only way to keep the affordable price tag, which is one of the advantages of the car.
