Social security after Brexit – DATEV magazine

German Bundestag, communication dated March 16, 2021

The federal government has drafted a law (19/27518) for the coordination of social security with the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (SozSichUKG). The draft had become necessary as a result of Brexit: the trade and cooperation agreement between the EU and the European Atomic Energy Community on the one hand and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on the other, with its protocol on social security coordination, regulates the future coordination of social security in these areas Pension, accident, health and unemployment insurance between the EU and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (GBR). The regulations are designed according to principles that also apply within the EU for the coordination of social security systems.

The law is intended to determine the German authority responsible for the protocol, the German liaison offices, the German authorities responsible for determining the applicable law and the German access points for cross-border electronic data exchange. The responsibilities should correspond to the previous responsibilities.
