New York Fashion Week will take place in Lincoln Center for the last time in February 2015, after which it will have to look for a new home

New York Fashion Week will soon have to take place in a new building.

The fashion event currently takes place twice a year at Lincoln Center in New York. Actually, this should still be the case until at least 2020, but the contract with the cultural center could not be extended due to a lawsuit. Community Park Advocates complained in court about New York Fashion Week because it negatively affected a nearby green space. The tents and other equipment that is needed for the fashion week are said to damage the nearby Damrosch Park.

This litigation has now been resolved. As a consequence, New York Fashion Week has to find a new venue.

“IMG Fashion Week has to leave the property and remove all tents and other Fashion Week equipment from the park,” the documents say, as the New York Post reported.

At the moment it is not yet clear where the country’s most important fashion event will go, but the organizers are already feverishly looking for alternatives. At the moment, it looks like they’re considering moving downtown – which certainly won’t please everyone.

The upcoming fashion week in February 2015, when designers from all over the world present their fall / winter collections, will be the last at Lincoln Center. So there is not much time left to find an alternative.

“You can’t beat those stunning street-style photos of women in great high heels in front of the Lincoln Center fountain,” said Joyann King, digital director of Harper’s Bazaar ‘fashion magazine, wistfully. “It’s such a landmark in the city … There was an elegance to Lincoln Center. A little bit of it is going to be lost now.”

A spokesman for New York Fashion Week was optimistic about the future: “Lincoln Center was a great home … But as the fashion industry evolves, IMG is actively looking for a new home that offers our designers and partners the best possible environment offers to share their creative visions. ”

It remains to be seen whether this will succeed. The iconic event was already exposed to some criticism this year. Some design giants found that NYFW is now all about money instead of fashion. Therefore, fashion designers such as Vera Wang, 65, Michael Kors, 55, and Diane von Furstenberg, 67, decided against a presentation in the tents of the New York Fashion Week and showed their creations elsewhere.
