In Kerkrade, many more people than usual have applied for a replacement voting pass for the House of Representatives elections. Normally, about 90 are applied for and this year there are 250. Many people appear to have not received their voting pass, reports 1Limburg.
Something seems to have gone wrong with the delivery of the voting passes. Many people in Kerkrade who wanted to vote found out that their voting pass had not been delivered. The municipality has now issued 250 replacement voting passes, but that only concerns the people who submitted an application on time. People who only discovered after Friday 12 March that they had not received a voting pass and still applied for it, are out of luck. The spokesperson for the municipality of Kerkrade explains:
“This deadline is legally determined, after it has expired it is no longer legally possible to issue a replacement voting pass.”
The municipality is now going to initiate an investigation, but that is of no use to the victims. That investigation will only be completed after the elections.
It is not clear how big the problem really is. In total, 43,000 voting passes were sent by post within the municipality. In any case, it is quite sour for the PVV, which normally scores well there.
