Pandemic or not, scammers continue to rage and target, in particular, the most vulnerable people. This is what the Montluçon (Allier) police station recalls after receiving two complaints, in this first part of March 2021.
In both cases, the people were scammed by crooks posing as either a policeman or a city agent. Investigations are underway to find the perpetrators of these facts.
A false investigation and several thousand euros stolen
In the first case, several thousand euros were stolen from an elderly person. It all started with a phone call. At the end of the line, a man posing as a police officer “investigating a case of stolen bank cards”, indicates the police.
Following a well-oiled scenario, the fake police officer then asked his victim to go to a tobacco shop, claiming to want to trap the establishment, allegedly crooked, through the purchase of PCS tickets. PCS cards are prepaid payment cards, the limit of which is limited by the amount that is credited via these recharge tickets.
The scammer then managed to get the ticket codes back after having made his victim believe that the sum would be reimbursed to him, subsequently, by a transfer to his account.

The fake municipal agent comes to his victim’s home
In the second situation, a man came to the victim’s home, telling him that he belonged to the services of the city of Montluçon.
The official reason for his presence: to have him study and then complete various documents. In fact, the crook took advantage of his host’s inattention to steal it. Amount of damage: 750 euros.
Some important reminders
Above all, do not trust a priori. Clearly, if you have a doubt about a person who would seek to enter your home “by evoking confused reasons”, or asking you, by phone, “incongruous actions”, it is advisable to contact the services. police, by dialing number 17 or by going to the police station.
The police also recall, “that in the event of presentation at your home, people claiming to be institutional structures are generally provided with professional cards or documents attesting to their mission”.
