Six new plants, new network of charging points and market leader in electric cars – Volkswagen unveils plans

The German automotive group Volkswagen announced on Tuesday that it plans to achieve a dominant position in the electric car market by 2025.

Last year, Volkswagen sold 422,000 electric cars, of which 230,000 were fully electric, which is three times more than in 2019.

The company now expects to sell one million electric cars worldwide this year, including all-electric and hybrid cars.

“By 2025 at the latest, the group wants to become the market leader in electric cars,” says Volkswagen.

The Volkswagen Group, which owns a total of 12 brands, will invest € 46 billion over the next five years in the transition to electric car production.

Every tenth car sold in Europe in 2020 was electric, which is five times more than in 2019.

The Volkswagen Group expects electric cars to account for 60% of total car sales in Europe by 2030.

On Monday, the company announced that six battery plants will be established in Europe and the network of charging points will be significantly expanded.
