On Wednesday March 31, the University of Quebec at Trois-Rivières (UQTR) will hold the famous science popularization competition My thesis in 180 seconds. The activity will be broadcast live from 1:30 p.m., on the page UQTR Facebook. This competition will allow master’s and doctoral students to present their research project in three minutes, in front of an uninitiated audience. Participants will need to be creative and demonstrate their communication skills to win prizes.
About fifteen students, from various fields of study, have accepted this major challenge this year and will present topics of the most varied. The winner of the competition at 3e cycle will have the chance to represent UQTR at the virtual national final of the activity, scheduled for June 15 and organized by Acfas.
Scholarships and prizes will be awarded to participants at the end of the competition, including a “Coup de cœur” prize. This prize, valued at $ 250, courtesy of Coopsco Trois-Rivières, a loyal partner of the event, will be awarded to the student who wins the most votes from the public. All those interested in science are therefore welcome to this virtual meeting during which they will be able to vote for their favorite candidate. It is also not necessary to have a Facebook account to attend the virtual event.
Interestingly, the activity celebrates its 10e anniversary this year. During the deliberation period of the members of the jury, the public will be able to hear the testimonies of former winners of the competition. They will talk about their participation in this landmark activity in their university career and the memories associated with it, in addition to highlighting the benefits they have derived from this experience.
The My thesis in 180 seconds competition is inspired by the competition Three minute thesis (3MTMD) which first took place in 2008 at the University of Queensland, Australia.
