I’M A Celebrity has been accused of releasing an alien crayfish that could kill native species and destroy the shores of Wales.
The producers used Turkish crayfish to scare off celebrities during filming at Gwrych Castle, prompting police to investigate ITV.
Environmentalists say the crustaceans could have escaped and now wreaking havoc.
The numbers of British white-legged crayfish are collapsing and there are fears that the new arrivals could drive them to extinction.
BBC Springwatch presenter Chris Packham, 59, said: “These crayfish are important. They are not there to be exploited.
“This is the latest TV show where animals are abused for entertainment.
“North Wales Police should open an investigation. ”
ITV has been contacted for comment.
