Altstadt gets into esports
The SpVgg is expanding its portfolio and, in addition to the football departments, also wants to support players in the steadily growing esports sector on their career path.

The first step was to convince an 18-man squad with several years of experience to partner with FIFA 21 Pro Clubs. “We are happy that after very intensive discussions in the last few weeks we can now take this step and, as SpVgg Bayreuth, will provide a squad for FIFA from the coming esports season,” says Jan Bauermeister, assistant to the management who is responsible for the E ‑ Sport sees a lot of potential: “With the engagement of the 18-man squad, the first step into the digital world of sport has been taken, and many more will certainly follow.
Bauermeister is responsible for e-sports together with Senad Mecavica, who has been responsible for the social media presence of the old townspeople for over a month. “E-sports is one of the many exciting projects that we will start in the coming weeks,” said Mecavica.
What is FIFA Pro Clubs?
Per clubs denotes a niche in FIFA, the most famous football simulation. There each player is controlled by a single person. That means: eleven men in front of the television control eleven digital players. “That not only requires a lot of footballing understanding, but also a lot of coordination,” says Mecavica.
Big opponents are waiting
Pro clubs should only be the beginning, the esports department wants to cover other areas in the future. These will then be announced on your own Instagram account @spvggbayreuthesports. “International opponents such as Fenerbahce and Deportivo Alaves are waiting for SpVgg Bayreuth to qualify for the Champions League. Nationally, we meet teams like Hansa Rostock or SV Meppen, ”says Bauermeister, looking forward to the new project.
