teenager in severe scooter accident came out of coma

In early March, the accident of this 13-year-old teenager led to urban violence in La Duchère and several other districts of Lyon and its suburbs. The young boy is now in rehabilitation.

The 13-year-old teenager, whose scooter accident in the La Duchère district had triggered urban violence in Lyon and its suburbs, came out of a coma, we learned from his brother on Monday.

“He was taken out of the coma on Friday by the doctors and today he was brought into rehabilitation but it is not known how long his rehabilitation will take,” Hamza Cherifi told AFP, confirming information from the Progress.

“We can visit him, he recognized us all but he can’t speak well, he still needs a little time”, he continued, stressing that “the most important” for his relatives was the recovery of the young boy.

An investigation entrusted to the IGPN

On March 4 at the end of the day, the teenager, who was riding without a helmet, was hospitalized in serious condition after a scooter accident. Young people from the neighborhood assured that the scooter was being pursued by an unmarked police car, which the prefecture and a police source had formally denied.

The prosecution, which had seized the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN), then opened a judicial investigation of the counts of involuntary injuries aggravated by a hit-and-run and non-assistance to a person in danger.

Urban violence

The accident was followed by urban violence in La Duchère, with aftershocks the following evenings in other districts of Lyon and in the neighboring towns of Rillieux-la-Pape, Bron or Feyzin.

Among those arrested during this violence, a 20-year-old man was sentenced on March 8, in immediate appearance, to eight months in prison by the Lyon Criminal Court.
