Myanmar Military Emergency, Police and Citizens Duel Rifles vs Knives. Page all

YANGON, KOMPAS.com – Military junta Myanmar on Sunday night (14/3/2021) implemented martial law in two densely populated cities.

The first city is Yangon which is the commercial capital, and the second is the nearby Shwepyitha.

Status Myanmar martial law this came after at least 18 demonstrators were killed, in one of the bloodiest days of anti-coup demonstrations.

“The junta gives administrative powers and martial law courts to regional commanders of Yangon … to more effectively enforce security, maintain the rule of law and order,” the broadcaster on state TV was quoted as saying. AFP.

Myanmar military and police in recent weeks have cracked down on protesters almost daily.

They fired tear gas, rubber bullets, and live ammunition to disperse the anti-the Myanmar coup.

In the township of Hlaing Tharyar, Yangon, police and soldiers clashed with demonstrators carrying batons and knives also taking shelter behind makeshift barricades.

“I can confirm 15 people died,” the doctor told AFP, adding that he had treated about 50 people and estimated the death toll would increase.

Meanwhile AFP reported that residents hiding in their homes heard gunshots throughout the day, while military trucks were seen passing through the smoky streets.

The UN envoy to Myanmar strongly condemned the bloodshed.

He stated that the world community, including regional leaders, must unite in solidarity with the Myanmar people and their democratic aspirations.
