Apple is working on a mysterious “smart fabric”

This fabric could be incorporated into existing clothing or Apple products.

The Cupertino company is not only working on improving the iPhone, iPad and Mac. According to the various patents filed by Apple, the latter was also working on more unusual projects, including a connected ring, but also “smart fabric”, as AppleWorld reports.

It’s not the first time that an Apple patent refers to such a product. This time around, the patent addresses the weaving of this smart material. The fabric in question would include interwoven fibers, some would be insulating, others conductive.

In its patent, Apple mentions the different possible uses of this new kind of fabric. It could obviously be used for connected clothing that would monitor the physical condition of their wearer or provide biometric information to the iPhone or Apple Watch. The tissue could thus be able to detect the heart rate of its wearer, measure its body temperature or even follow muscle stretching and transmit the information via Bluetooth to a dedicated application. The possibilities are almost endless.

Moreover, the smart fabric developed by Apple could also be used to cover the HomePod mini or be integrated into bracelets d’Apple Watch. We can also imagine that the seats of the Apple Car are covered with it. Again, the possibilities are plentiful. It remains to be seen if this smart fabric will ever leave Apple’s labs.
