ABU DHABI, March 14, 2021 (WAM) – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will celebrate “Emirati Children’s Day” tomorrow, a national occasion celebrated on March 15 that aims to raise awareness in the community about children’s rights.

The UAE has moved from caring for children and protecting their basic rights to empowering future generations and building their future.

Coinciding with the occasion and under the patronage of HH Sheikha Fatima bent Mubarak, President of the General Women’s Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Maternity and Childhood, and Supreme President of the Foundation for the Development of la famille (FDF), the Emirati Children’s Parliament will hold the inauguration session of its first legislative chapter tomorrow. It will be hosted remotely by the Federal National Council.

The creation of the parliament reflects the country’s will to support children and young people, as well as to improve their political awareness, in order to ensure their active participation in the development process.

Since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), the UAE has adopted a series of procedures aimed at protecting children from the risks posed by the spread of the virus while allowing them to enjoy all of their basic rights, including education and health. In this context, the country has launched awareness campaigns among children and their families, to make them aware of the disease and the appropriate preventive measures.

The UAE has also set up a distance learning system to help children enjoy their basic right to education in a safe environment, as well as home and drive-through health care programs and programs. of telemedicine.

The UAE is continuing its achievements in the field of child protection and protecting their rights in general. In recent years, the country has published a comprehensive system of laws and regulations aimed at protecting children and educating them about their rights.

The UAE has published the “National Maternity and Childhood Strategy 2017-2021” as a key reference for decision-makers in the national children’s sector. It also passed the “Child Protection Law” (Wadeema), which was issued by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Sultane Al Nahyane, under the official name of Federal Law No. 3 for 2016.

The Home Office (MoI) established the Higher Child Protection Committee in 2009 and the Child Protection Center in 2011 to report cases of child abuse. In addition, the UAE chaired the Virtual Global Taskforce (VGT) to protect children from online exploitation.

The selection of the UAE as the first Arab country to join the Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children is further recognition of the country’s successful national policies to protect children.

The UAE has also adopted a code of behavior for students in the school community that includes several instructions to consider in correcting negative behavior.

The Supreme Council for Maternity and Children, in cooperation with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) office of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the Ministry of Education and the Department of Abu Dhabi Education and Knowledge, launched guidelines for parents to protect children from bullying.
