MUSIC – Bucolic, the word is weak. This Sunday, March 14, Taylor Swift, back on the stage of the Grammy Awards after six years of absence, made the spectators travel the time of his performance on stage, in large part thanks to a breathtaking setting.

The 31-year-old American singer, who followed three of her last songs (“Cardigan”, “August” and “Willow”) took her place in the middle of a wooden cabin covered with grass, waking up the spirit of the (artificial) forest.

All that was missing was butterflies and birdsong, as you can see in the video below.

This Sunday, Taylor Swift also won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year for “Folklore”, becoming the first female artist to win the title three times, tied with music giants of the caliber of Stevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra and Paul Simon. She had already received this coveted Grammy for “Fearless” in 2010 and “1989” in 2016.

Cottagecore, the “country” trend

“Folklore” is the first of two records released by Taylor Swift during the lockdown caused by the pandemic, on which she fully embraces the “cottagecore” aesthetic of the return to simple and country things, very popular in the United States.

Taylor Swift’s conversion to a field belle hasn’t stopped this pop steamroller from crushing its top contenders in the race for the Supreme Grammy, including Coldplay, Dua Lipa, Post Malone and Queen Beyoncé.

On “Folklore,” which has earned the star six total nominations this year, Taylor Swift has shifted somewhat from her usual introspection to writing from the perspective of others, telling stories akin to the songs of some great folk composers like Bruce. Springsteen or Bob Dylan. His eighth studio album was ranked among the most influential records released last year across the ocean.
