In the Chinese capital, Beijing, air pollution has reached dangerous levels, with wind bringing sand and dust from the north of the country and poor visibility in the city.
The Chinese Meteorological Administration has issued a “yellow” alarm, indicating that a sandstorm is likely to affect about 12 provinces.
If meteorologists’ predictions come true, this will be the strongest sandstorm in ten years and the largest in terms of area covered.
Chinese media reported that more than 400 flights were canceled at Beijing’s airports.
