Aspen (AP) – The German snowboarders have reached another final at the World Cup in Aspen. In the Big Air discipline, Leon Gütl jumped sensationally among the top twelve freestyle artists in the qualification and is thus in the fight for the medals on Tuesday.
The 19-year-old athlete from WSV Bischofswiesen celebrated the greatest success of his career – in the World Cup, with only eight starts so far, a 22nd place was his best competition.
Before Gütl, Annika Morgan (7th) and Leon Vockensperger (10th) as well as André Höflich (7th) in the halfpipe had reached the finals at the season highlight in the USA. “I’m mega, mega happy,” said Gütl after his Big Air qualification. “I might have landed the trick the way I landed it now, maybe once before. I’m extremely happy. ”In Big Air, the athletes jump over a large hill and have to show the most difficult tricks possible.
Gütl’s team-mates Noah Vicktor (19th) and Vockensperger (22nd) missed the final round. Morgan just barely made it into her second final in Aspen: She was a strong ninth in the qualifying – but only the first eight made it through.
