As soon as Switzerland has enough corona vaccine, around 130,000 doses can be injected every day. Because he does not believe that the canton of Zurich will be ready for mass vaccination by May or June, the head of the Zurich construction machinery manufacturer Wacker Neuson is setting up his own vaccination center.

In an industrial hall at the company headquarters in Volketswil ZH, he plans to vaccinate 500 people, including his 175 employees, says Company boss Benjamin Wasinger the “Sunday newspaper”. Another company is also participating. More are to follow.

Canton of Zurich not enthusiastic about private initiative
He has been commissioned with the Piks by the Docstation health center from Stettbach ZH. So that the doctors have an incentive to participate, Wasinger pays them 180 to 240 francs per vaccinated employee. That is almost ten times as much as the federal remuneration for doctors. Some of these refuse to take part in the corona vaccination campaign because the compensation does not cover the costs.
–
The initiative does not meet with enthusiasm at the Health Department of the Canton of Zurich (GDK). Company vaccinations are not a priority in the cantonal vaccination strategy, says a GDK spokeswoman for the newspaper. The cantons have sufficient capacities for all those willing to vaccinate.

Vaudois companies do not want employees to stand in line
Not only in Zurich, but also in Vaud, companies take the reins into their own hands. 70 Vaudois companies want to offer their 30,000 employees a corona vaccination themselves, as with the flu. Among them is the technology company Kudelski with 650 employees in the canton. Company boss André Kudelski (60) said at the beginning of the year: “We want to offer the vaccination to those employees who want it – and under the best possible conditions: without having to stand in line and go somewhere where they could be infected with Covid.”
–
The Vaudois Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CVCI) submitted the proposal from the 70 companies to the canton.

BAG is open to private vaccination contributions
There are now increasing doubts as to whether the federal government will achieve its goal of vaccinating 5.3 million people by the end of June. In order to administer 4.5 million doses in May and June, around 150,000 people would have to be vaccinated seven days a week. The cantons are responsible. The Vice Director of the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG), Nora Kronig (40), is not averse to private initiatives. “The cantons have to decide whether and how private initiatives should be involved,” explained Kronig.
