The Transportation Authority in the Dominican Republic prohibits Uber from operating
The taxi sector in the Dominican Republic was in favor of maintaining Circular 10 of the Intrant that regulates transport companies.
They claim that Uber does not comply with the requirements established in Dominican laws to perform services, while taxi drivers do comply with their obligations to the Dominican State.
“We do pay the corresponding taxes required by law, we contribute millions of pesos to the treasury every year, which Uber does not do, under those conditions allowing access to airports and hotels is promoting unfair competition, and these push us to bankruptcy ”.
They stated that they accept what was stated by the Intrant, when it says that: “it is essential that both Uber and its drivers have all the requirements required by law to carry out economic activities in the Dominican Republic, both at the corporate, fiscal, labor level. , and immigration, of the company, its associates and employees, allowing a healthy competition that generates opportunities for all ”.
The entity that brings together more than 15,000 taxi drivers, said that only to the extent that the Government applies the laws, the country will have the respect of its citizens and guarantee of the investments it needs for its development.
