Jakarta, Selular.ID – Nokia and Samsung signed a patent licensing agreement for video standards. Under this agreement, Samsung will pay royalties to Nokia for using the video innovation patented by the Finnish company.
Nokia has won numerous awards for its video technology, including four Emmy Technology & Engineering Awards. The company has invested more than € 129 billion in R&D over the past twenty years and has accumulated over 20,000 patent groups.
Both companies have a long history. In 2013 Samsung signed a 5 year contract to license Nokia patents.
Then in 2016 Nokia and Samsung expanded the cross-licensing agreement after Nokia won the patent licensing arbitration. There was another extension of the patent agreement in 2018.
Nokia is not the only company that Samsung handles. In January Ericsson won a court order against Samsung in Texas over licensing the FRAND patent and is currently suing Samsung in Europe over the same issue.
The two companies settled a $ 650 million patent dispute in support of Ericsson.
