‘Lives have been destroyed’, Brabant insufficient for politics is ‘mild’

Brabanters give politicians in The Hague a meager 5.3 when asked whether they feel heard. According to SP leader Marijnissen, that is still mild. “Lives have been destroyed,” she responded Saturday night in the Debate of the South.

With her accusation, Marijnissen referred to the benefits affair. “It’s all because The Hague politics is not there for people. I blame the cabinet and Prime Minister Rutte. He no longer sees what is happening in the country.”

Rutte herself had no choice but to agree with her largely. “The SP has the right to speak. They have previously signaled what went wrong in this area. That was terrible. Now we have to learn lessons from that.”

Corona
According to PVV leader Wilders, it is precisely the approach to the corona virus that is the cause for the moderate confidence of the people of Brabant. According to him, the measures can be relaxed for a long time and it is therefore indigestible that entrepreneurs have to keep their business locked up. Rutte once again emphasized that it is not about that one café or restaurant, but about the total picture.

Klaver also got involved in the discussion about the corona policy. According to the leader of GroenLinks, the party leaders would do well to think in terms of solutions. “We have 30 million rapid tests. I would love to see them used to make them more accessible. It is hard to explain to all those Brabant entrepreneurs that those tests are now left on the shelf.”

‘Who Do You Think You Are’
Incidentally, Wilders himself was also a topic of the debate, when it was discussed that the VVD does not want to cooperate with the PVV in advance. “A travesty,” says Wilders. “If you really believe in democracy, you can never say in advance that you do not want to work with the PVV.”

Not much later, the other parties also indicated that they would rule out a collaboration with Wilders’ party. According to CDA leader Hoekstra, he owes this entirely to himself, because his election program is in violation of the Constitution on several points. Wilders reacted furiously: “A shame. We are bigger than your party. Who do you think you are?”
