Season dominator wins the men’s competition at Innsbruckring – premiere success for Styrian woman

One week before the beginning of spring and at the same time the start of the road cycling league Austria, which will start with the first race on Sunday begins in Leonding, was the final of the eLiga | eCycling League Austria takes place.

The final run of the second edition of the series took place at the virtual Innsbruckring, the street circuit of the 2018 World Championships. “It was a tough race. My legs weren’t good, so I was extremely tortured. I also struggled with my internet throughout the race, of course that wasn’t optimal, but in the end it was enough, ”reported Kirchmair. The Tyrolean, who had been the overall winner of the second series of online roller races for two races, defeated the increasingly emerging mountain bike specialist Wolfgang Krenn (Bike Team Kaiser) in the final sprint. Third was Maximilian Kuen from Kufstein (Team Vorarlberg).

Kevin Haselsberger (ARBÖ Radteam Feld / See) sprinted just past the podium, and fifth place went to two-time Olympian in cross-country, Christoph Soukup (KTM Factory Team). The season finale did not bring any major changes in the men’s overall standings. With a lead of 489 points, i.e. more than two race wins, Kirchmair celebrated the league win and succeeded the rower Rainer Kepplinger as the overall winner. This had won the first eLiga event in spring.

Second overall went to Styrian Moran Vermeulen, who was unable to tackle the last race after having been on the road with his Felbermayr Simplon Wels team at the Istrian Spring Trophy in Croatia. Third was Kuen ahead of Jonas Rapp (Hrinkow Advarics Cycleang) and Paul Ruttmann (Schuller ProTriTeam), who finished fifth overall. Kirchmair was also able to cheer in the team classification, because the Kirchmair eCycling Team he founded won it confidently ahead of Geizhals.at VICC Racing and the road team from Hrinkow Advarics Cycleang followed in third place.

There was a maiden win in the women’s finals. They also matched each other in the sprint at the last race of the second edition of the eLiga. For the first time, the Styrian Bärnthaler celebrated a victory. She won just ahead of Upper Austrian Tina Berger-Schauer (Union RRT Pielachtal) and overall winner Katharina Machner (Union Raiffeisen Radteam Tirol).

Fourth place was followed by the German Franziska Leuchter (Zugvogel 09 Aachen), who hit the home straight with the top trio at the same time. Fifth place went to Daniela Geierlehner (Sportunion Waidhofen / Ybbs). In the overall ranking, Machner clearly won with a lead of 315 points over her first pursuer, the German Fiona Schröder (Saris + The Pro’s Closet). Third place went to Bärnthaler ahead of Julia Mayer (RC La Vitesse) and Stefanie Lisko (Union RRT Pielachtal). The women’s team ranking went to Lower Austria and Union RRT Pielachtal, which prevailed ahead of La Musette Radunion and Geizhals.at VICC Racing.
