No automatic braking in NRW
The value has risen significantly for three days, but the emergency brake should not apply automatically in North Rhine-Westphalia. A spokesman for the NRW Ministry of Health announced this to WDR on Saturday. The WAZ reported first.
The incidence value has been exceeded in nine municipalities, but the decisive factor is the nationwide extent: it is currently 75.9.
The ministry spokesman said that if a nationwide incidence was exceeded, it would first have to be examined what circumstances had led to it. One reason for this are the many tests that have been possible since the beginning of the week. But rapid tests and self-tests are clearly hard to come by nationwide.
More tests, higher numbers?
The ministry spokesman stated in writing: “In North Rhine-Westphalia, the process of citizen testing started with a lot of dynamism this week. If the numbers increase simply due to the many additional tests in an otherwise stable infection process, this must be taken into account in the further evaluations. Because the MPK Decision wanted to react to an increasing number of infections with the emergency brake.”
But the head of the Robert Koch Institute, Lothar Wieler, is certain: The fact that the corona numbers are increasing is not due to the fact that more tests are now being carried out. He says the situation is getting worse again overall. The numbers are increasing in day-care centers, but also in general for people under 60 years of age. This could also be related to the easing since Monday.
