The conference is scheduled for March 30.
Brevard County • Melbourne, Florida – Florida technology graduate Julian Field, founding president of a startup gearing up for the commercial launch of a solar-powered 50-mile car, will be the featured speaker at the Distinguished Lecture Series of F. Alan Smith on March 30.
The hypothetical event, ‘Make a Car Powered by the Sun’, runs from 12 noon to 1 pm EST and is co-sponsored by the Melbourne Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Sustainability Task Force in Brevard. The event is free, but registration is required at www.floridatech.edu/lectureseries.
In 2013, Field and his son James, both in Yorkshire, England, began designing a solar-powered car and insisted that it be practical, affordable, and road legal.
The result was SPV1, which contained a battery that could be recharged in three hours in normal daylight conditions.
Encouraged by his success and his knowledge of the commercial potential of solar vehicles, Fields established solar transportation systems and began work on a production vehicle. Six years later, they introduced INTI, a two-seat bench named after the Inca sun god.
The sun’s energy is stored in the INTI battery, which powers an electric motor with a range of 50 miles. The car can also be plugged into a household outlet for additional range. The first INTIs are expected to be delivered in 2022.
Julian Field brings years of successful experience in multiple business sectors to your solar power startup. Born in Argentina and raised in Venezuela, he later joined Florida Tech where he graduated in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering.

In 1999, he founded and ran Furniture123.co.uk, the UK’s first and ultimately largest online furniture retailer. Sell it to Buy It Direct Ltd. In 2012.
In addition to his role in Solar Transmission Systems, Field is currently the Director of Business for Educational Services. He is a member of the Florida Tech International Advisory Board, where he helps guide and educate future students from around the world.
