News about Tesla Inc came to Indonesia and had a lot of discussion, especially when the company owned by Elon Musk canceled its visit and preferred to invest in India.
However, the government confirmed that talks about Tesla’s investment in the country will continue. The agency led by Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, namely the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenkomarves) confirmed that the project that Tesla is eyeing is not to build an electric car factory in Indonesia.
Therefore, although it is rumored that Tesla is building a car factory in India, it does not mean that the lobbying for government investment in Tesla has ended.
Deputy for Investment & Mining of the Ministry of Communications, Septian Hario Seto, emphasized that the government is still in deep discussions with Tesla about potential investment in Indonesia.
“I clarified which Tesla We are still talking about this, but we can’t go into details. But we never talk about car factories with them, “Seto said in a webinar on the Future Energy Tech and Innovation Forum 2021, Monday (8/3/2021).
In fact, according to Seto, Tesla is currently eyeing investment in the Energy Storage System (ESS) sector. Moreover, they have succeeded in building this in Australia.
“They are successful in Australia, and they openly offer options to Indonesia. This is like our one discussion with Tesla,” said Seto.
In a note detikcom, ESS is a tool that works like a ‘power bank’ which stores large-scale electricity up to hundreds of mega watts (MW) and can be used as a stabilizer or as a replacement for peaker generators (peak load support).
