According to the Russian news agency TASS, Navalny is now in the IK-2 penal camp. One of Navalni’s lawyers previously confirmed that President Putin’s opponent was no longer held in Kolchugino Prison in the Vladimir region of northeast Moscow. But he also said the legal team had not been told where he had been taken.
A spokeswoman for the Russian Prison Service said she was unable to disclose information about Navalny’s whereabouts due to laws protecting personal information. Using the Russian hashtag #WhereisNavalny (Where’s Navalny), Navalny’s supporters wrote on Twitter that the move was to prevent his lawyers and family from reaching him.
The 44-year-old politician, who ranks as one of Putin’s most prominent critics, was convicted of violating parole. In the West, the verdict was labeled as politically motivated.
Navalny recently spoke out from prison. In a message on Instagram to his supporters, he assured him that “everything is fine” with him. He escaped death last year after poisoning, which may have been the work of the Russian secret service.
