Tesla focus on cybertruck production, news in Q2> teslamag.de

For both of the large electric cars announced by Tesla, the time to start production is apparently getting closer. This January, CEO Elon Musk had cautiously said that the first Tesla Cybertruck would only be produced “with luck” this year, and that the semi-trailer truck was ready to go, but it lacks battery cells. But shortly afterwards it was said that Tesla wanted to start semi-production this summer. And about the Cybertruck, CEO Musk himself now said that Tesla was “focused on building this beast”.

Tesla Semi and Cybertruck from Texas

According to early statements by Musk, the new Gigafactory in the US state of Texas is planned as the production location for both large Teslas. This has been under high pressure since summer 2020. The first of the Giga presses that Tesla has only used in the production of the Model Y was recently installed there.

The Tesla boss has now confirmed on Twitter that the Cybertruck is to be built in the Gigafactory near Austin. At the same time he announced new information about the steel pickup for the second quarter of this year. Currently it is about bringing the “beast” into production, wrote Musk, but did not reveal anything about it.

In between, the Tesla boss has repeatedly reported minor modifications since the Cybertruck was presented at the end of 2019 and announced the first photos of them by the end of the year last October. So far, this has not happened, but recently Musk wrote on Twitter that he had seen and liked the revised Cybertruck design again. So now it should be shown before the end of June – maybe together with news about production.

Semi-tests observed in Fremont

In the case of the Semi, on the other hand, Tesla has recently often sent prototypes onto the streets. Several of them have been seen in different locations in the United States, some with slight changes from previously seen specimens. All of the new Semis were initially themselves as loads on low-loaders, but most recently an observer filmed a copy that drove test laps next to the Tesla plant in Fremont. Suppliers said in February that the semi-pilot production should start this July (initially in Fremont and the battery-powered Gigafactory Nevada), the series a month later.
