Sydney (Australia), Mar 12 (EFE) .- Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on Friday that his country will maintain the distribution of the AstraZeneca vaccine against covid-19, despite the fact that several European countries suspended its inoculation after known cases of thrombosis.
Morrison commented that the Australian health authorities have indicated to him that a change in the immunization campaign is not necessary after discussing recent reports on the adverse effects of the AstraZeneca vaccine, which will be inoculated to the majority of the Australian population.
The prime minister told reporters in Sydney that the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has a “very robust process” to ensure that the drugs being distributed are safe.
“The TGA receives the data from all the places we have relationships with, which obviously includes Europe, then examines it and informs us (the government) to make decisions in Australia,” the president said.
Morrison’s comments come after Austria recalled AstraZeneca’s ABV5300 batch on Sunday as a precautionary measure following the death of a person diagnosed with multiple thrombosis – blood clot formation – and the disease of another coinciding with their vaccination.
In addition, Italy, Denmark, Norway and Iceland, among other European countries, decided to suspend the immunization completely or partially with the AstraZeneca doses.
These countries are waiting for the European Medicines Agency (EMA) to complete its evaluation of the reported cases as well as all thromboembolic events and conditions related to blood clots that have been reported by patients coinciding with the days after vaccination. . EFE
