The police received the alert at 5.48 p.m. The deployment then lasted just under two hours, and according to the emergency services, there were also blocks, passage restrictions and delays for rail travelers for security reasons.
Before that, passers-by had discovered an “abandoned” or “womenless” bag in the station building, which is said to have been there for some time. The operations manager of the station then called out possible owners. After no one answered, the police were alerted.
“Explosives-aware organs” at work
The command sent specially trained officers, so-called “explosives-aware organs” (SKO) and a search dog and dog handler. The executive teams quickly found that there was no bomb, hand grenade or other explosives in the bag.

Conscious provocation?
The rightful owner of the bag has not yet been found (as of 9:00 p.m.). Investigators learned that there were indications that a suspect had deliberately placed the bag in this way. There is currently no official confirmation of this information.
After the all-clear from their specialists, the police ended the operation at 7:50 p.m.
In 2019 there were 173 missions of this kind
Police spokeswoman Nina Laubichler told ORF on request that there were a total of seven SKO officers in Salzburg. There are also four search dogs and their guides who are trained to detect explosives. In 2019 alone, for example, there were 173 such missions nationwide. Most of them are ultimately harmless objects.
