KOMPAS.com – PP PBVSI has determined the attitude if rival countries demand achievements and medals Aprilia Manganang repealed.
The former women’s national team volleyball athlete, Aprilia Manganang, has been confirmed to be male.
This was announced by the TNI Chief of Staff (KSAD), General Andika Perkasa, in a press conference that took place on Tuesday (9/3/2021).
Aprilia, who is also an active TNI soldier with the rank of second sergeant (serda), is known to have hypospadias, an abnormality in the urinary tract or urethra and penis.
The certainty about Aprilia’s gender change was discovered after the former athlete got on the operating table to perform correction surgery.

The examination was carried out because Andika Perkasa and other TNI officials saw an abnormality in Aprilia’s physical condition.
After the medical results came out, it was discovered that Aprilia Manganang tends to have male organs.
In fact, levels of the male hormone testosterone were also found to be higher in Aprilia Manganang’s body.
As a result, Aprilia Manganang has now been confirmed to be male.
This also resolves the polemic about Aprilia Manganang’s gender.

Because, before this, Aprilia had many protests that it was not a woman because she had a physical appearance like a man.
It is not uncommon for the opposing women’s volleyball teams, especially at the international level, to often protest when Aprilia appears.
Now, the question of the certainty of the sex of the 28-year-old former athlete has been answered.
However, currently there are many questions about whether the Aprilia Manganang medal and achievements will be revoked.
What’s more, Aprilia Manganang has often been protested at event international.
Regarding this, PP PBVSI explained that there had not been any protests from rival countries to revoke Aprilia’s achievements.

If later there is a protest, PP PBVSI will take a stand by coordinating further with the national and Asian sports authorities.
This was stated by the Head of PP PBVSI Competition and Competition, Hanny S Surkatty, during a virtual press conference which was also attended by KOMPAS.com on Thursday (11/3/2021) afternoon WIB.
“Regarding April, there was no deliberate factor, he himself did not know that he was a man,” Hanny’s response began with the question of potential protests from rival countries.
“So, from the birth of her family and state documents, she believes that she is a woman. There is no deliberate factor,” he said.

“Then, on SEA Games in Singapore, it is not us who determines April to play, but from the committee that checks it, “he said.
“So, the validity was not from us, but from the SEA Games committee, so we believe she was a woman at that time,” he said.
“Regarding the anticipation (of the medal withdrawal protest), we are in the process of waiting now,” said Hanny.
“So, if there is a protest, we will talk to KONI and Asian sports authorities like that,” he said.

“Moreover, this (about gender change) is the first time this has happened in all countries, it will be different if the case is deliberate,” he said.
Aprilia Manganang is a former athlete pain loves who has won many achievements at the club level and the Indonesian women’s volleyball national team.
The former athlete who was born in Tahuna, North Sulawesi, has won the title four times Proliga in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2019.
At the national team level, Aprilia Manganang’s best achievement is winning a silver medal at the 2017 SEA Games.

PP PBVSI personally explained that they would not withdraw all of Aprilia’s achievements.
“All awards in Proliga and others will not be revoked because this was not an intention,” he said.
“This is a factor of birth and she herself doesn’t know that she is actually a man so we will not revoke it and it will still be Aprilila’s right,” he said.
“We also give the highest appreciation to Aprilia because she has contributed a lot to Indonesian politics, both nationally and internationally,” he said.
Aprilia Manganang has decided to retire as a volleyball athlete in 2020 and continue her career in the Indonesian Army until now.
