“There is a 58% increase in the incidence in our country. There has been an increase in cases for at least 14 days. We are currently at the level of November 5.” This was stated at a regular briefing on the spread of the coronavirus by the Chief of the National Operations Staff Prof. Ventsislav Mutafchiiski.
Regarding mortality, he stressed that there is a sharp increase in the curve, which has not been noticed since September.
COVID-19: Over 500 people are in intensive care units
“More than a year has passed since the beginning of the pandemic. I have a vivid memory of how it all started – with one – a single laboratory. There are now over 100 of them. This is a huge job that was done in the beginning. Now we can see what a spring we saved last year – I say it with great regret, “said Major General Ventsislav Mutafchiiski.
“There are hospitals with exhausted or half-exhausted capacities. We have 5 free beds in the Military Medical Academy, although we have opened two new wards. Until I return from the briefing, these beds will not be there either. The situation is very serious and that is why we have not given optimistic forecasts that things are going in the right direction. No, they are not going in the right direction! With such an increase in data, medical resources will be quickly depleted, “he stressed.
“Right now, it’s even more important for people to understand that they have to keep their distance, wear masks, avoid public places. Something that makes a strong impression is that at the previous peaks we had families in which one or two members were not infected. Now they are going in full, they are all infected. In the hospitals on Thursday last week we had 5,307 infected, and now they are 6,395. 7 days ago 440 intensive beds were occupied, and now – 501 “, said Mutafchiiski.
“The situation in certain areas is starting to get extremely serious. All this was expected from us, given the wide spread of the British version of the virus, “said Health Minister Prof. Kostadin Angelov.
Growth of signals to “Emergency” and infected medics
“In the months since the beginning of the pandemic, Bulgaria has achieved a lot. We certainly made mistakes. I accept any criticism. But I will not allow spitting and denial of everything done so far. He who promises you a life without disease is lying to you. Whoever claims that we do not know how to deal with it because he is not involved in this process is deceiving you. There is one thing we are losing. It is our desire to stand up and deal with the pandemic. I want to thank all the people who believe in the measures and all the doctors, nurses and orderlies in the whole country “, Angelov was categorical.
He added that medicine cannot fight for a patient who does not want to take care of himself.
“We learned a lot of lessons this year. There are many passions and troubles in the public space. We struggle with many lies and false statements. We are responsible for everything. One can lie to the whole world, but not to oneself. This is the greatest battle of our time. We must believe in science, and science is vaccines, “the minister added.
“Yesterday I was in Burgas. The situation there is serious. In the infectious wards, I saw several children with COVID-19, including 3-month-old and 5-month-old babies. In them the disease is mild, but they all have bilateral bronchopneumonia, “said Prof. Angelov.
Babies with COVID-19 are housed in hospitals in Burgas
“There are as many patients in hospitals as there were in October last year. This is worrying, but the system is ready. I will visit all areas that have a problem with the beds. We have enough personal protective equipment. We have requested a sufficient amount of Remdesivir for in the coming months. The race against the virus continues “, the Minister of Health was categorical.
“All the strategies in the world work. Let’s give an example with Israel, with England. We are debating, I have to have professional conversations with non-professionals every day, to refute lies. My family will be vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine when the time comes. I had no choice. Let no one miss their chance, “the minister urged.
About the measures
“Measures in areas where we have a morbidity of 50 per 100,000 people simply do not need to be introduced. We monitor the numbers every 12 hours. If necessary, we will take measures at the national level, we are not late. There is no way to introduce measures where people do not believe in the need for them. It is not a question of issuing an order, it is a question of ensuring its observance. I will be as honest as possible with you – where there is a need, we impose measures. Here, today in Pleven there will be a protest “On it, when the people come together, will we get an effect from the measures or a defect?”, Said Prof. Angelov.
“7 million people live in our country. We don’t have that many cops to guard them. Send every single signal you have. I make a personal commitment to punish the guilty. Control also borders on personal responsibility. In the case of the restaurant on the sea, where there were 90 people in one place on March 8, there had to be 90 policemen to guard them? What did the police have to do? To remove the players from the table? ”, The minister also commented.
Assoc. Prof. Kunchev emphasized that the process is multi-layered and there is no way to predict the growth of morbidity.
“The data are interesting because against the background of growing morbidity, there is no radical change in our ranking in the EU. This only means that the wave is everywhere. The 14-day morbidity for the past 2 weeks is 380 per 100,000. This ranks us 16th in the EU and 5th in the Balkans. In terms of the distribution of morbidity in the country, there are still significant differences, “explained the chief state health inspector.
The leading areas in terms of morbidity are Pleven, Kyustendil, Vratsa, Burgas, Sofia, Shumen and Pernik. The least infected per 100,000 people are in Targovishte, Vidin, Kardzhali, Razgrad and Dobrich.
“The affected areas have decided to impose so-called local measures. There was a lot of criticism that we take out the students in an electronic environment, but there is a school with 13 sick teachers “, explained Kunchev.
He gave the example of a nursing home in Bulgaria, where there is an epidemic outbreak. “There are 17 patients there. They all refused immunization,” Kunchev explained.
About vaccines
The vaccinated people over the age of 60 are 140,000 people.
Today, the European Medicines Commission decides on the Jansen vaccine, said Mag. farm. Bogdan Kirilov.
“The evaluation of the Russian vaccine by the European Medicines Agency continues. Tomorrow 31,200 new doses of AstraZeneca are expected in Bulgaria, and on Monday another 21,060 from Pfizer / BioNTech. The EC is negotiating an additional 4 million doses of Pfizer / BioNTech, which to be provided in the next two weeks. We have yet to find out how many of them will be for our country, “he added.
With regard to the recommended vaccine, the Minister of Health believes that every doctor should judge his patients.
“I also want the vaccines to come, but they don’t come. This is not Bulgaria’s fault. The contracts are concluded by the European Commission. If we did, I guarantee you that I would seek all rights and penalties. And I want people to have a choice. There are places where there are RNA vaccines. Wherever we could, we had them put up for mass vaccination. Who does not want to get a certain vaccine, will wait for his turn for another “, explained Prof. Angelov.
