The mayor’s office of Polish Zamoć called the head of the UPA allegedly guilty of the murder of the Polish population and condemned the appropriation of his name to the stadium in Ternopil.
The authorities of the Polish city of Zamoć announced the severance of partnership with Ternopil after the news of the renaming of the stadium after Roman Shukhevych. This was announced on Wednesday, March 10, by the Zamoć City Hall.
“We state with sorrow that on March 5, the Ternopil councilors named the city stadium after Roman Shukhevych, the head of the UPA responsible for the brutal murders of the Polish population in 1943-44,” the city authorities wrote on the website.
The city authorities of Zamoć say they are forced to stop cooperation with Ternopil on a number of projects. In particular, the funding of the project is stopped Joint history of Ternopil and Zamoć, for which Poland was going to allocate almost 70 thousand euros.
Recall that earlier Israel condemned the renaming of the stadium in Ternopil in honor of Shukhevych. The Israeli Ambassador appealed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Ternopil City Council and the OP with a demand to immediately cancel the decision to rename.
Today the Foreign Ministry replied to the Israeli embassythat the issue of the national memory of the Ukrainian people is one of the priorities of the state policy of Ukraine, and let historians be engaged in discussions about historical figures. Also the mayor of Ternopil answered the ambassador of Israel, declaring that he became a hostage of “Soviet historiography”.
