Extended during the coronavirus pandemic, processing times will be shortened, announces a press release from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) of the Canadian ministry in charge of immigration. As such, the immigration processing center, located in Sydney, Nova Scotia (Eastern Canada), has been expanded to increase its capacity to process family reunification applications.

With the opening of new offices, the Sydney case processing center, currently limited to 30% of its capacity due to Covid-19 restrictions, will increase its capacity. Many employees who worked remotely will be able to return to the office, says IRCC.

In addition to the opening of new offices, around sixty employees will also be recruited. “The new space and additional staff will be mainly dedicated to family category requests abroad. These additional resources will help IRCC process more requests and shorten processing times that were extended during the pandemic, ”said the same source.

For Canada’s immigration minister, the additional space and increased capacity could speed up processing times and help return to the one-year standard for spousal applications. This new measure will also create jobs for Cape Bretoners. “I am proud of the work of our Sydney office, which will continue to play a vital role in our efforts to strengthen Canada through immigration,” he adds.
