The UN will hold an informal meeting on Crimea


The meeting on the “Arria” formula was initiated by two dozen UN member states. It will take place on Friday.

On March 12, the UN will host a high-level virtual meeting on the “Arria” formula on the annexation of Crimea, according to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday, March 10.

The meeting is convened by the member states of the UN Security Council – Great Britain, Estonia, Ireland, Norway, the United States and France – together with Ukraine.

It will be attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba and a number of ministers and deputy foreign ministers of the partner countries.

“More than twenty UN member states from different regions of the world have become co-organizers of this event. Briefings will be delivered by UN Assistant Secretary General for Human Rights Ilze Brands Karis, Potomac Foundation President Philip Karber, Coordinator of the Media Initiative for Human Rights Maria Tomac,” the statement said.

The purpose of the event is to strengthen the attention of the UN Security Council and the international community to Russia’s violation of international law and attempts to legitimize the annexation of Crimea.

The participants in the meeting will discuss the ongoing militarization of Crimea and the Black and Azov Seas, human rights violations, and the deteriorating economic and environmental situation on the Crimean Peninsula.

The day before, foreign ambassadors were presented at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine elements of the Crimean Charter, which is planned to be adopted by the results of the summit Crimean platform.
