Joséphine Baker, Pina Bausch, Christiane Eda-Pierre, Juliette Gréco or even Lily Laskine. In this list of women artists appears the name of the future conservatoire of Pré-Saint-Gervais (Seine-Saint-Denis). Since Monday March 8, 2021, residents are invited to vote to choose the female name for the site.
Located near the Town Hall and Place Anatole France, the new 800 m² Conservatory will have nine teaching rooms and a 200-seat auditorium. The cultural equipment should open at the end of 2021.
Five “artists and committed” women
In the meantime, the City of Pré-Saint-Gervais and the territorial establishment Est Ensemble are already considering the name that will be assigned to it. The names retained: five women ” artists and workers of the last century ”.
“Whether they are dancers, musicians, singers… they are all engaged and inspiring. Whether their name wins the majority or not, this shared reflection should in any case make it possible to put these personalities in the spotlight and to salute the life that they have very often devoted entirely to their art ”, presents the town of Pré-Saint-Gervais .
To get to know these women, or to rediscover them, the City is organizing an exhibition “Women in light”, in the public space. It will end at the same time as the closing of the votes, April 8, 2021.
