As the city of Wrzburg reports, despite the pandemic, a large number of initiatives and actors coordinated by the Department of Culture of the city of Wrzburg succeeded in designing a program with great creativity and inventiveness. Depending on the infection situation, analog event formats and church services, as well as new formats in virtual and digital form, are planned. Here is an overview.

The series of events begins three days in advance

The series of events has already started on March 13 at 4 p.m. with a city tour with Markus Schfer under the title “Bunker, Bombs, Flchenbrand – Wrzburg and March 16, 1945” from the train station via the Pleich to the old crane. March 15th at 6 p.m. Roland Flade will give an online reading as part of the Main Post Academy, which will deal with eyewitness reports who witnessed the devastating bomb attack of March 16, 1945. Also from 5.30 p.m. The cultural department of the city of Wrzburg presents the newly published book “Remembering as a polyphonic talk of the town” on the city’s YouTube channel. This is followed by a panel discussion, also digitally transmitted, under the title “Lively Remembrance – Living Democracy – Perspectives for the Wrzburg Culture of Remembrance”. At 7 p.m. A “Night of Peace Lights” will take place in the hall of the Kolping Center Mainfranken with text and meditation and at the end with the silent participation of the bell ringing on the roof terrace of the Kolping Center in memory of the bombing of March 16, 1945.

On March 18 at 6 p.m. Prof. Matthias Stickler (University of Wrzburg, Institute of History, Chair of Modern History) will give a lecture in St. Johannis entitled “Air War. Historical Notes on Unlimited Violence in World War II”. The lecture will be adapted to the corona conditions and held as a present / online lecture.
