The Government of the Province acquired the historic mining property “El Arsenal”, located in the Huaco district, Andalgal, and be delivered to the company Catamarca Minera and Energtica Sociedad del Estado (CAMYEN SE) so that it can install and develop a comprehensive project in the Department. The news was communicated by Governor Ral Jalil to the president of CAMYEN, Guillermo Haddad, and to the Minister of Mining, Fernanda Vila.
The property “El Arsenal” consists of 200 hectares and was the place where the first mining works began. The proposal is that CAMYEN settle there with its offices and develop, together with the Ministry of Mining, a comprehensive project for the cultural, tourist and industrial development of the region.
“It is a project highly desired by Andalusians, since it means returning to the old roots of mining and its development,” said President Haddad.
“In addition to having a historical structure that allows the productive development of the mining sector, the projection is to revalue it to be able to use it in other areas,” the Government reported yesterday. “The Arsenal maintains one of the oldest kitchens of copper, iron and other minerals, which we will work to revalue and give it a tourist and cultural utility,” Haddad explained.
In May of last year CAMYEN opened its offices in Andalgal, but it did so in a provisionally rented premises, since at that time it was already managing to get this mining property.
The lands of “El Arsenal” were in the hands of the company Organizacin Hotelera Ocean Park SA and last year the Legislature approved the project sent by the Government to declare them of public utility and subject to expropriation.
Positive financial balance
In another of the meeting’s topics, Haddad informed Governor Jalil about the company’s financial status, confirming that it ended the 2020 period with a positive balance. As he explained, CAMYEN was “self-sustaining in all its commitments and hopes to continue developing in the same way.”
