The “old lady” had a territorial advantage in the first act, but the well-functioning defense of the “dragons” of domestic players often did not let go of pure chances. A series of fine plays up the middle should have led to a goal for Juan Cuadrada, but Eduardo Morat’s shot went over the bar. Porta’s first big chance after a shot from Mehdi Taremi remained unused in the 7th minute, and the same player sent the same ball only to the line of the home goal. The visitors kept the pressure on to tie the game when, after 19 minutes, Sergio Oliveira broke through the center and found himself alone with the keeper.
Juventus made a superb strike after 49 minutes with a shot straight in front of the goal after a long ball through the middle, but one of the visitors’ defenders got a foot in at the last second and warded it off for a corner. He then received two yellow cards Taremi, the second for an unnecessary non-sporting foul, and Juventus could use his power-play in the 57th minute. Agile Chiesa, after a predatory penetration, only hit the pole. However, Chiesa made a spectacular save. Caudrada could have reduced the lead with a blistering strike from the left wing, had it not been for an excellent block by the visitors’ keeper.
Juventus pushed, Adrien Rabiot, Ronaldo, Chiesa and Morata did not stand a chance. In the 90th minute, Morata scored with a cross shot, but was offside, showing VAR. When Cuadrado hit the crossbar with a left-handed technical shot for another two minutes, an extra time followed. With 99 minutes played, Moussa Marega nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot passed just over the bar.
The home keeper was stunned 11 minutes into the match when he misjudged the free kick by Oliveira and dived in the wrong direction. Rabiot immediately got Juventus into the lead again, but the home team needed to score another goal, which they did not manage.
