After ten months of construction, the time had come in December 2020: FC Bayern Munich opened the soccer simulator on the FC Bayern Campus. The so-called Skills.Lab is intended in particular to record and evaluate the football-specific performance parameters of a player on a technical-cognitive basis. “In the first few months after commissioning, it became clear that the Skills.Lab, in conjunction with our innovation center, will make an important contribution to talent management in the future. The Skills.Lab contributes to the systematic development of our players, both in terms of individualization and in the area of performance control, ”says sports director Hasan Salihamidžić.
Campus director Jochen Sauer continues: “With its modern technology, the Skills.Lab is a great addition to normal training. We can use it to collect and evaluate other important performance data of our players and use it for the performance development of the players. It forms an important aspect of the individual training work of every single player. “
Over 100 different forms of training
Since December last year, players from the U16s to the FC Bayern amateurs as well as the professionals of the FC Bayern women have been training daily in the hexagonal mini stadium. In the future, all campus teams, from the U12 to the women’s team, should be active in the Skills.Lab.
Despite restrictions as a result of the corona pandemic, the actors can already complete individual exercises. Programs with up to four players at the same time are possible on the 320 square meter artificial turf. They have to solve game situations and tasks that are projected onto projection screens by five high-performance projectors. Four fully automated ball machines form the heart of the facility, which offers over 100 different forms of training in five different levels of difficulty. In the first few weeks since commissioning, 20 more exercises could be developed – all on the subjects of passing, ball control, ball control, shooting on goal, header and goalkeeping. The training duration varies between 20 and 60 minutes.
