World Tourism Organization Releases Pandemic Travel Report

In early February, 69 of 217 travel destinations were completely closed due to the pandemic, according to a UNWTO report.

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) on March 8 presented report on travel restrictions around the world in connection with the coronavirus pandemic. –

According to UNWTO, five countries are fully open to tourists: Albania, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, North Macedonia and Tanzania. They represent only 2% of the total tourist destinations.

As of early February, 32% of all tourist destinations in the world (69) remained completely closed to foreign tourists, and 34% were partially closed (73 destinations).

A total of 217 travel restrictions were analyzed.

As UNWTO Secretary General Zurab Pololikashvili emphasized, countries need to gradually restore the tourism industry, since restrictions only partially solve the problem with COVID-19.
