At the age of 99 years and 9 months, he received the first dose of the corona vaccine at the Borromeus Hospital in Bandung, last Monday (1/3). Meanwhile, Siti Rumende received the first vaccine at the Cilandak Health Center, South Jakarta. He was injected with the vaccine on February 26, 2021.

Eddy’s son, Benny Bernardus Yoshawirja told the story to CNNIndonesia.com about his father’s participation in the vaccine.

“So, on Monday (1/3) my father and I were also vaccinated. The first dose of vaccine was injected,” said Benny, Tuesday (9/3).

Benny himself registered his father to be vaccinated. He also filled out the online vaccination registration for elderly groups provided on the Ministry of Health website.

“I immediately registered. Incidentally, my wife is a doctor, so the first time I left the link from the Ministry of Health I immediately filled in,” he said.

After being registered, Benny revealed that he was and his father received a vaccination schedule and queue number.

“So finally he got the serial number, he injected it at Borromeus. My father and I got the calls,” he said.

Benny said, on the day of the vaccine injection, his father had filled out the vaccination form. One of the obstacles, Eddy was found to have a history of kidney disease.

“There was a screening form at that time and you didn’t pass because you had a history of kidney disease. So you can’t be vaccinated. Then I asked the doctor from the general practitioner, internist, who was in charge of vaccines, who were also consulted. Of the five, dr. David Susilo, dr. Dian Y., dr. Monic, dr. Gideon and dr. Luciana Anggraeni M.Kes said they could be vaccinated, “said Benny.

After undergoing vaccination, Benny said that his father had no complaints directly.

“There are no complaints at all,” he said.

Benny is grateful and relieved that his father has been vaccinated.

“At the age he is approaching 100 years, of course he is grateful, thank God that he has been vaccinated. I myself am very relieved by the vaccination, I feel safer,” he said.

According to Benny, it makes perfect sense to give priority to elderly citizens to receive the Covid-19 vaccine. He also added that there is no reason for people to debate the effectiveness of the vaccine.

“I urge people to get vaccinated, not to be afraid. I can just bring an old man who is a hundred years old and praise God that he is a good example and role model,” he said.

As the oldest person to receive the vaccine, Benny said that there were several things that became the recipe for his father’s longevity.

“During his lifetime, you did not smoke and drink alcohol, exercise regularly, eat on time, sleep on time, and have extraordinary discipline. It was this pattern of living with honesty during youth that brought you a healthy life and a long life,” he said.

Eddy himself is scheduled to undergo a second dose of Covid-19 vaccination at Borromeus Hospital, Monday (29/3).
