The drawing of lots round of 16 of the Coupe de France took place at the end of the evening, this Monday 8 March 2021, the day after the historic qualification of the Voltigeurs de Châteaubriant (Loire-Atlantique).
The Castelbriantais will face for the first time in the history of the club an elite team, the Montpellier Hérault Sport club (MHSC), current 7th in Ligue 1. A magnificent poster in perspective for the players of Papy Leye and Florian Plantard.
The meeting scheduled for April 6 or 7
The draw was made by the former captain and defender of AS Saint-Etienne, Loïc Perrin, in the wake of the last round of 16 match between Nice and Monaco (0-2).
Sixteen amateur and professional teams from all over France are still in the running for the next round of the competition, scheduled for Tuesday 6 or Wednesday 7 April 2021.
Seven clubs from Ligue 1, one from Ligue 2, two from National, five from National 2, including the Chateaubriant Voltigeurs and one from National 3 are still involved in the competition at this stage.
Eighths elsewhere than in the Wooden Town
As for each edition, if the two teams have two minimum levels of difference, the smaller club organizes the meeting at home, but behind closed doors, a health crisis requires.
The Voltigeurs will therefore play at home, but will not be able to welcome their opponent to the Wooden Town, which is not approved for the rest of the competition.
Two choices should present themselves in the coming weeks to the leaders of the club: Nantes or Ancenis. Two neighboring towns of Loire-Atlantique which have a stadium that can accommodate the knockout stages of the Coupe de France.
