Sweden convicted a woman who took her son to ISIS territory

Once in Turkey, the woman moved to Syria with her two-year-old son and ended up in territory controlled by ISIS.

In Sweden, a court sentenced a woman to three years in prison for taking her 2-year-old son to Syria, an area then controlled by ISIS, in 2014. It is reported by Associated Press.

The woman lived in the town of Landskron in the south of Sweden. She told the child’s father that she and the child were going on vacation to Turkey. Once in Turkey, they crossed over to Syria and ended up in territory controlled by ISIS.

“She intended to move to Syria with her son and settle there forever, took her son from her father,” the court’s decision says.

In 2017, as Islamic State rule began to collapse, she fled to Turkey, where she was arrested along with her son and two other children, whom she had in the meantime given birth to by an ISIS fighter from Tunisia. She was later extradited from Turkey to Sweden.

Earlier it was reported that in Iraq, as a result of an air strike by an international coalition led by the United States eliminated one of the leaders groups of the Islamic State.
