Bashar and Asma Assad are positive coronavirus tests

Syrian President Bashar Assad and his wife Asma have tested positive for coronavirus, the presidential office was quoted as saying by the Associated Press.

The two are in “good health and stable,” the statement said. They underwent AKP tests after having mild complaints corresponding to the symptoms of KOVID-19.

The president and his wife will return to work after spending two or three weeks in isolation at home, the presidential office said.

The Syrian Ministry of Health said on March 1 that it had started vaccination against KOVID-19 of first-line medical workers, Reuters reported.

“For the second day in a row, first-line health workers who work in coronavirus isolation centers in the provinces are being vaccinated,” the ministry said.

The statement did not say what vaccine Syria had received or how much.

In the last days of February, the Syrian authorities said that they had received vaccines from a “friendly country”, without specifying which one.

Earlier, health officials said Syria had committed to Russia and China to get vaccines, but no bilateral deals had been announced so far.

According to the Johns Hopkins University, 15,981 cases of the new coronavirus have been confirmed in Syria at 3.30 pm Bulgarian time. 1063 people died with KOVID-19.
