In Dnipro, feminists poured borscht for women’s rights: guys with tulips came out to fight them

For many people, March 8 is “the day of spring and beauty.” But the story of the holiday tells a completely different story. First of all, it is devoted to the struggle of women for their rights.

Unfortunately, women all over the world suffer from sexism, harassment and rape. To remind about this, the feminists of Dnipro came out to a rally on Polya Avenue. It is reported by Informant from the scene.

The girls insisted that the issue of gender inequality was still not resolved in Ukraine. The participants of the event opposed the fact that the city authorities spent budget funds on distributing tulips to women. In their opinion, this money should have been used to help victims of domestic violence, to open more shelters for them, etc. The activists emphasized that they do not need gifts, but equality. They decided to demonstrate their position through a performance. Participants poured red liquid on the greeting cards, which symbolized borscht.

“Our action is called“ Thrown borscht ”, because borscht is such a“ sacred ”dish. We will add it to traditional postcards about spring, tenderness and femininity. Thus, we demonstrate our position regarding this day, we want to return it to its primary importance. This is not a day of spring and tenderness, this is a day of struggle for women’s rights, ”said Georgy Markov, coordinator of the public organization“ Insight ”, organizer of the action.

However, there were also opponents of this point of view. Representatives of the organization “Tradition and Order” came out with a poster “Dnipro against feminism and for the sake”. According to them, our country needs patriarchy and traditional family values.

“We believe that modern feminism is negative. We see what is happening in the West. Complete erasure of the concepts of what a woman is and what a man is. The emancipation of women has long achieved all that they wanted to achieve. What is happening now is “red communist ideas” disguised as “neoliberal dressing”. Patriarchy is about the fact that a man should be in charge. A man loves a woman, and a woman takes care of the hearth. Now in Ukraine the institution of the family is decaying, we have a lot of divorces, young people do not create families, “free relationships” are very popular. This destroys Ukraine, because we have a low birth rate because of this, ”the guys share.

Young people believe that there is no inequality between men and women in Ukraine. That is why they came out to express their disagreement.

Women can vote, women get jobs. Most of our judges are women. What’s going on now? Gender quotas. For example, to participate in elections, a certain number of women must be members of a political party. And it does not take into account that there must be some kind of political qualities, ”the representatives of the organization add.

At some point, the guys shouted “The Patriarchy loves you”, and then they tried to give the girls tulips. The activists took it very negatively, they threw flowers directly into the spilled “borscht”. Conflict situations did not arise, the police of the dialogue followed the order.

The young men also chanted patriotic slogans. When we asked the speaker if any of them served in the JFO zone, he could not answer for sure, but he assured that if they were called up, they would definitely go to the front.

We will remind, earlier we showed how it looks like in the Dnieper holiday bustle on the morning of March 8th. Read about the rally against tariff increases here.
