Since last February 19, the Galician duo Listening Elefantes has a new job on the street. Its title is «Why do you always sing in English?», And it refers to the fact that this is the first album that Sílvia Rábade (voice, drums, keyboard / synthesizers) and Carlos Tajes (voice, guitar, basses, pianos and synthesizers) They edit in Spanish. It succeeds “Show & Tell” (2012), “Happy Lonely People” (2014) and “Hope” (2017) in his discography.
It is the Listening Elephants themselves who have been in charge of everything related to the album, from obviously the composition to the production, and even the creation of the accompanying videos. Eleven cuts are those that we can find in a work where the duo, hardened in street performances, seems to be determined to create a tour de force continuous three-quarters of an hour in duration. And for some, this is also their most elaborate work yet.
I believe it: listening to this “Why do you always sing in English?” shows us a band that has achieved a forceful pop rock album where the voices, which seem to convey urgency, also have the leading role. Although that does not mean that Listening Elephants have left music in a secondary plane; Rather, it works in perfect symbiosis with those voices that are left on the verge of tearing in some moments, which ends up resulting in an intense experience for the listener, almost exhausting even.
We cannot say that we are dealing with a rock album itself, although as I say, due to the intensity that they impress on the songs of “Why do you always sing in English?”
