The “Hiker-friendly” label is awarded to tourism service providers in the Baltic States. It shows that the entrepreneur understands and respects the needs of pedestrians, that they are welcome here. The entrepreneur offers essential and necessary services to pedestrians, such as: route information, drinking water, first aid kit, charging of electrical appliances, the possibility to dry wet and wash dirty clothes, boots and other equipment.
At the end of February 2021, the second “Pedestrian Friendly” commission meeting took place in Latvia, which was organized in the project “Long-distance cross-border hiking route” Mežtaka “”. How entrepreneurs can get this mark
In Latvia, the label is awarded by a commission with 13 members – both state institutions and organizations that support walking, active recreation and nature tourism. This service can be awarded to any service provider in all three Baltic States that wants to offer the necessary services to pedestrians – not only accommodation, but also, for example, cafes, pubs and restaurants, tourist information centers, gas stations, shops, etc. The criteria are available here.
Service providers throughout Latvia will be able to apply for the next meeting of the commission, which is planned for May 2021, regardless of the hiking route or trail near them (interested parties can apply by writing to lauk@@ototajs.lv).
