At the end of last year’s incomplete season, it took place Kateřina Siniaková a couple of successful tournaments, but at the beginning of 2021 they are in trouble again. Out of five matches, she won only one in the qualification against the player from the second hundred of the Romanian, Monica Niculescu.
She presented herself three times this year in the main competition and was eliminated in the first round each time. Angelique Kerber was not enough for Germany at the Grampians Trophy in Melbourne, she lost to the Frenchwoman Fiona Ferrová at the Australian Open and today she easily lost 2-6 3-6 with the Tunisian woman in Dubai Ons Jaburovou.
In the last two years, Siniaková managed the opening match in Dubai and last December she even reached the finals of the ITF W100 tournament, but today she remained on the court for just over an hour.
The 24-year-old Czech with Jaburova in the form lost four times and served once and worked out a breakball. In the second set, she used it and equalized to 2-2, but it was only a small sign of improvement. She then lost four of her five games and v seventh mutual duel she lost a second time. She also played only five games in a previous match last year in Doha.
The last prize in the main competition of the WTA tournament was recorded by a native of Hradec Králové at the end of last September at the French Open. Since then, she has failed five times in a row in the first round.
Her doubles partner has a much better form Barbora Krejčíková, which also won its opening match at the 13th event since last August’s restart of the season. In Dubai, the 25-year-old Czech started with a 6-2 7-6 victory over the sixteenth Greek Mariou Sakkariovou and scored the second scalp of the player Top 30.
In the second round, the 63rd player in the world, Krejčíková, will face either former French Open winner Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenková or Romania’s Patricia Tigová.
Krejčíková and Siniaková also start in doubles in Dubai, in which they won the title of the Gippsland Trophy in Melbourne this year and played the finals at the Australian Open.
A total of seven Czech tennis players will perform in singles. The winner from 2013, Petra Kvitová and Karolína Plíšková, are among the highest-ranking quartets. In the first round, derby awaits Kristýna Plíšková s Tereza Martincova, which she qualified today. Markéta Vondroušová will play the first match from the Australian Open, after which she worked with a groin injury.
This year, only four Top 10 players, led by two-time champion Elina Svitolinová, will present themselves at the prestigious tournament in Dubai. The Ukrainian will start in the second round against the Russian Světlana Kuzněcovová (h2h 1-4), which defeated today 6-4 1-6 7-5 Qiang Wang, although the Chinese woman claimed victory in the third set.
