UdeC students are trained to improve dairy goat and meat herds – The Commentary

Students and teachers of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics (FMVZ) from University of Colima, Tecomán campus, participated in a program of genetic improvement and insemination by laparoscopy in goat herds, commercial and registration, with the support of the Mexican Association of Registered Goat Cattle Breeders and several producers.

This was made known by the Coordinator of Continuing Education of the FMVZ, Arturo Cesar Garcia Casillas, who explained that the participants they learned to detect heat, the synchronization of the reproductive period, identified reproductive morphological structures by laparoscopy and performed artificial insemination by laparoscopy.

Entrepreneurs from Criadero Real Pedregal, Kanuma, Las Magnolias and sheep and goat producers of the Rancho El Campanario. This alliance has the purpose of improving the dairy goat and meat herd of the state of Colima, in addition to promoting its consumption at the state level, taking advantage of the properties of a fortified diet, explained García Casillas.

The research professor at the FMVZ Y responsible for the program, José Luis Zepeda Batista, said that this training is supported by the Mexican Association of Goat Cattle Breeders of Record, and has the central participation of the nationally certified doctor for the performance of reproductive management by various associations of goats, sheep and cattle, Ulises Chávez Muñoz.

Zepeda Batista highlighted that the students received a scholarship from the Mexican Association of Goat Cattle Breeders. On how they have adapted to online education, he said that FMVZ students have combined their virtual academic activities with part-time jobs, something that this particular training allowed them.

Finally, he announced that manage a course on morphological evaluation of sheep and goats in collaboration with the Mexican Association of Registered Goat Cattle Breeders. In addition, they added the certification as technical evaluators, of the students Christian Jesús Espíritu Sánchez and Juan Pablo Munguía Padilla.
