Little progress on plasma donation in LN

Very slowly, plasma donation is progressing in Nuevo León, in this last week an increase of barely almost 2 percent was achieved, being one of the lowest percentages registered in this matter.

The Ministry of Health announced that in the last seven days only 64 effective donations were obtained, therefore, Manuel de la O Cavazos, head of this agency, called on the population that has already recovered from covid-19 to be encouraged to donate plasma .

“It is very important that they donate plasma, they will feel very good, because they are saving lives.

“We still need plasma, the virus has not gone away, the more we are on the street, the risk that infections will increase,” said the state official.

At the moment, thanks to the doses obtained from plasma, 3,534 patients have benefited, 25 more than last week.

“We have to save more lives,” said De la O Cavazos.

The main reason why potential donors are rejected is the lack of antibodies, which are essential to apply sick patients as treatment.

According to the statistics provided by the state agency, the Metropolitan Hospital is the institution that most has promoted the donation and reception of plasma in Nuevo León.

In the previous hospital alone, a total of 2,552 effective plasma donations have been captured, a treatment that It has been applied directly to 1,448 covid patients.

On this occasion, the official, who was accompanied by Beatríz Aura Lee González, director of the State Blood Transfusion Center, acknowledged the support of a couple of donors, who related their experience, as well as a recipient of the treatment, who thanked the attention from the authorities.
