The man accused of kidnapping his 10-year-old daughter after killing his ex-wife has claimed she left the country and threatened to shoot a Dallas hotel, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Ronald Lee Singer, 35, is charged with murder over the death of Maria Romero-Ramos, 45, in Denton County Jail.

The singer and his daughter were found at a motel in Red Oak on Wednesday morning, police said.

A Denton County arrest warrant affidavit issued for Singer details the moments leading up to the discovery of Ramos’ body and the hours that followed.

Shortly before 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Ramos’ roommate arrived at their compound but saw Singer’s Cadillac parked outside the apartment. His black Mitsubishi Outlander was not there, according to the affidavit.

The roommate texted Ramos, but she didn’t respond. The roommate was reluctant to enter because Ramos and Singer often argued over Singer’s alcohol and marijuana use, according to the police document.

After waiting for Singer’s vehicle to depart, the roommate entered the apartment at around 1 a.m. and found Ramos’ body just inside the front door. Her face was bloody and swollen and she had cuts on her chin and hands, according to the affidavit.

Police said Ramos missed several texts and calls around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday from his daughter and another person asking why Ramos hadn’t taken his daughter to school.

The roommate told police Ramos’ daughter stayed at a friend’s house because a pipe had burst in the apartment, and she returned home after school on Tuesday, according to the affidavit.

On Tuesday afternoon, around 5 p.m., Singer went to the friend’s house and picked up his daughter. He said Ramos had an emergency and had to travel to Mexico, the affidavit said.
